I have yet to meet someone who wouldn’t love to feel 20 again. There’s just something about the resiliency, strength, and overall awesomeness of moving without aches and pains. What if you could have some of that back? Keep reading because I’m about to share the secret for how to feel younger this year and beyond. Turning back time is easier than you think!
The secret: How to feel younger
The people I’ve worked with over the years who age gracefully have one thing in common: They have consistently been active throughout their lives. Motion is the lotion that keeps our bodies moving well!
When you consider how to keep your body moving remember: It doesn’t have to be anything crazy. There’s no need to take up marathon running or bodybuilding if that doesn’t sound exciting to you. The people who have had success do things like walk 3 miles, 3 days a week, go to their favorite exercise class on a weekly basis, or play rec sports with friends.
How to implement the secret
Wondering how to feel younger this year? The secret is moving your body consistently over these next 12 months. When it comes to being consistent with movement over the course of a year, it has to be something that excites you and is FUN. I’ll walk you through how to do this in 5 easy steps.
1. Get a piece of paper or open to a new page in your journal. Write at the top “I am going to feel 10 years younger by December 31, 2022!” (I know it sounds cheesy, but giving your brain a specific goal to focus on makes you way more likely to achieve that goal.)
2. Write down 4-6 activities that you enjoy doing. This could be walking, running, having a dance party with your kids, lifting weights, doing yoga, playing tennis, pickleball, soccer or basketball, swimming, Beachbody workouts, biking, Pilates, hiking…the options are endless!
3. Write down each month of the year in a vertical column. In a second column, write down one activity next to each month, pulling from the list you created in step 2.
4. You now have your monthly activity! Spend 10 minutes, 5 days per week doing that activity. That’s only 50 minutes per week!
5. Set a reminder on your phone for the 5 days each week you are going to be active. We all are so connected to our phones, so this way, you won’t forget. Following these steps will keep your action items clear, simple, and easy to follow, which is crucial for staying on track. I challenge you to make this the year of movement! 10 minutes of activity each day can make a huge difference and offers a solution to the age-old question of how to feel younger.
