Every other month, I showcase a business owner making a difference in the wellness field. I hope this gives you a bit of inspiration—I know it keeps me inspired to work hard! Here’s my Q+A with Annie Gerth, owner of Empowered Wellness, a massage and manual therapy studio in Westerville, Ohio. With a focus on helping each unique body recover, maintain and advance physical wellness, her business caters to competitive athletes and weekend warriors eager to exceed their health and fitness goals.
Why are you passionate about living a healthy lifestyle?
I went into massage therapy hoping for a job, but ultimately found what I am truly meant to do. As a teenager, I battled poor mental health and self-medicated with drugs and alcohol. My first job was working on long-distance runners and cross fitters, and, boy, was it inspiring to see such healthy, *joyful* people! At 20 years old, I quit self-medicating cold turkey and signed up for my first half marathon. It was an incredible challenge, and lit a fire under me as I began to feel what my clients experience as my body got stronger! Self-improvement is an incredibly difficult, never-ending project and it is a privilege to have clients, no matter where they are in their journey, working toward and celebrating growth!
What motivated you to start your business?
As a firm believer that total body wellness begins with a stable, functional, active muscular system, I wanted the ability to offer manual therapy beyond a generic, 60-minute massage. I opened Empowered Wellness to better serve my clients with more customized options, no matter where they are in their journey.
What’s unique about the services you offer?
Because ever body is different, my services are meant to be unique to each of my clients. Since we’ve opened, I’ve have added cupping therapy and heat therapy, and am always hunting for the next addition that will take your recovery and maintenance routine up another notch! Tell us about the clients you work with and the type of transformation they achieve.I want to work with everyone who is working toward being the best version of themselves. Whether that’s through overcoming chronic pain, preventing an injury or aiding in a fast recovery, I am excited to be your coach (and cheerleader) in finding a solution that propels you forward to the next goal! If you’re hungry to grow but an achy, stiff, uncomfortable body is getting in your way, I want to meet with you, and discuss what personalized treatment plan will be best for you.
What’s your favorite pump-up song?
Hands down my favorite pump up song is Good to Be Alive by Andy Grammer!
