Every other month, I showcase a client I’ve worked with and how together, we’ve helped them knock their goals out of the park. I hope this gives you a bit of inspiration—I know it keeps me inspired to keep working hard! Here’s my Q+A with Linda.
What caused you to seek treatment?
Before working with Dr. Steph, I was in pain and fearful that I would not meet my goals for 2020. I was starting to subject myself to negative self-talk.
What was unique about your treatment?
I love to run or do some other training in the morning because I just feel better all over after I’ve been physical. Dr. Steph helped me modify exercises or found alternative solutions that worked the same muscles. Additionally, she incorporated dry needling for some of my tight or underworking muscles.
She was also a lifesaver in suggesting that I change my running shoes because of my gait. My running store was excited to see me come in and exchange one pair of shoes and buy two more pairs for my rotation!
How are you progressing?
I can’t believe that I can now run six miles with no walking! I’ve also learned the importance of listening to my body and realize that there is no shame in walking as long as I continue to move.
Recently, my marathon on Catalina Island was cancelled after I had already flown to Los Angeles, so my friend and I drove to Joshua Tree National Park and hiked almost 50 miles over the span of a few days. While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many races to be cancelled, I have continued to run and do my strength training. I have run a number of virtual races, including 3 half marathons and a 58-mile run.
What are you looking forward to achieving in the future?
I thought this would be my last year of running, but now I believe I will face my 71st birthday with a lot of joy and thankfulness. Now I’m praying that the Marine Corps Marathon in October isn’t cancelled, but if it is, I am confident that I will do a virtual marathon here in Columbus.
Would you recommend Empower Physio & Wellness to your friends?
Yes! From the moment Dr. Steph returned my call, I felt like I was in good hands. She listened to me, gave me hope right away that my marathon (just 8 weeks away) was possible, and made me a part of the treatment process. She explained her suggestions in-depth and LISTENED to my feedback. I always felt comfortable telling her if I didn’t understand how to do an exercise. Since the very first session, I knew I had a treatment plan that was effective and I’d recommend her to anyone.
